At DFDFCU, your security is our top priority. We have been seeing an uptick in fraudulent activity and fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated every day. The two most likely sources of fraud are card skimmers that read and steal your card info when you scan it, or merchants having their customer data compromised. Even major institutions—including government agencies—have faced data breaches in recent years. That’s why it’s important to stay alert and know how to protect yourself.
What to know to prevent fraud
Fraud can happen to anyone, but staying alert and knowing how to spot warning signs can help you stop it before it starts. Here are some tips to keep your information and accounts safe.
- We will never call you and ask for confidential information
When you call us, we may ask for some identifying information. But when we call you, we will never ask for passwords, account numbers, etc. and you should not disclose this information to anyone. We can reset an account password for you, but your password is not visible on our end of our system.
- If you're ever even slightly skeptical, call us directly at 303-228-5300.
Our card issuer may be the one calling if fraud is being detected on your account, but we can always go and verify for you that a legitimate representative was the one calling you. Fraudsters can also spoof our phone number and Caller-ID, appearing to be us. It is important to be extra vigilant and not give out information without calling us directly.
- Download the DFDFCU CardNav App
- CardNav is an app where you can sync any of your cards (debit, credit, or HSA) and get notified every time a purchase is made with your card. CardNav also allows you to instantly turn off your card at any time, and instantly turn it back on if you confirm there is no fraudulent activity. This is one of the strongest tools we have available to detect and prevent fraud from happening on your account.
